West Wind Calling in Ottawa with Carolyn Pogue – Saturday August 18 at Books on Beechwood

Carolyn Pogue, author of the young adult historical novel Gwen, will read at Books on Beechwood in Ottawa, on Saturday, August 18 at 12pm. Come primed for an adventure as we hear from the second tale of Gwen Peters, a British Home Child who travels with her mistress from Brantford, Ontario, to the wild west of Calgary, Northwest Territories.

We couldn’t have picked a better venue for the event! Books on Beechwood is known for its literary-fiction, biography, and history section – three genres equally pertinent to the Gwen series.

This reading is perfect for children learning about Canadian history, their teachers, and for history buffs of all ages. The character of Gwen is inspired by the author’s grandmother, as well as the life and work of poet-performer E. Pauline Johnson.

For more information on E. Pauline Johnson, whom Gwen finally encounters in West Wind Calling, please see our previous blog post on her legacy here.

Be sure to join and share our Facebook event page.
We can’t wait to see you there!
