Yan Li, author of the wonderful Lily in the Snow, will be reading at Book Fest Windsor this coming Saturday, November 6. Her readings are known for moving accounts of writing in both Chinese and English, and negotiating the divide between. She is also coordinator of the department of Chinese language and culture at the University of Waterloo and Director of their Confucius Institute. Her writing outside of that at Women’s Press includes editing Chinese Literature: A Reader (Nanjing University Press, Nanjing, China 2009), and her novel Daughters of the Red Land (Sister Vision Press, Toronto, 1995) which was nominated for the 1996 Books in Canada First Novel Award. Li’s other work in the literature includes her service as vice-president of the Chinese Pen Society of Canada from 2002 to 2008.
